18 Aug What I Wish I Knew As A First-Time Manager
I wish I had been trained to become a manager.
It did not happen that way though.
First, I was put in a team manager position.
Then, people just expected me to know what to do.
Well, the learning was painful to say the least.
For instance, I quickly learned that as a manager of a team, it’s no longer about what I deliver. It’s almost only about how I make my team deliver.
And to achieve this, I finally learned that I needed to give trust to people, empower them, focus on the outcome and not the process.
Had I known that on day 1, as well as many other things, my learning curve would have been much smoother.
As a first-time manager, what is one thing you wish you knew before starting on the role? What would be your advice to someone starting as a manager now?
