Taking Time Off

Taking Time Off

What are your plans for proper time off this summer?

Tell me you do plan to take a break to rest and recharge your batteries.

If not, what is the reason you don’t?

Are you falling for the trap of “If I’m not at work when this decision is made, this is bad”?

Or maybe you think that like a Bill Gates or an Elon Musk, you must work more hours than humanly possible in order to succeed and time off is not part of that?

I fell for these traps previously. I have now learned that without taking time off and reloading properly, my work performance will be seriously affected.

I now find that taking time off is happening more easily if I do these 3 things:

1. I prepare for it ahead of time
2. I set expectations with my colleagues and boss
3. I have a plan for what I want to do during my time off

And also these 3 things:

1. I lie on a chair with a good book
2. I sip a glass of my favorite Sauvignon Blanc
3. I turn off my computer and cell phone no matter what

What about you? What’s your plan for this summer?
