7 Steps to a Great Introduction Speech to Your New Team

“Hi, I’m Joe, I’m your new boss, happy to meet you, let’s go to work!”

How would you like to have such an introduction speech from your new boss? I would hate it.

Efficient leaders have empathy, can be vulnerable, empower their teams, lead with consistency, among other things. Recently, I have heard a few introduction speeches from new leaders and they all demonstrated these leadership traits by touching on 7 things in their speech:

1. Who they are: Who’s the human being behind the boss, the leader
2. What they like and love: They touched on a hobby or something special for them and their family
3. What they “WHY” is: Why do they do what they do, what did they join the company, what keeps them motivated and energized?
4. What their big red line is: The values they will never compromise on, and that will ensure they lead with consistency
5. What they believe in
6. Their management philosophy: How they empower people, how they lead
7. Their priorities to work with and as a team

If you have these 7 things in your introduction speech to your new team, chances are you will have a good start with your team.

What else have you seen in introduction speeches that got you interested in the new leader? What have you used yourself? Tell me in the comments.
