My 12-Week Leadership Challenge – Week 6

My 12-Week Leadership Challenge – Week 6

Week 6 of my 12-week leadership challenge.

Today is about accountability.

Accountability has to do with how people feel responsible for their actions and to a larger extent for the actions and results of others as well.

A person on the team who is accountable will not only take responsibility for their own actions but also for the actions of the team.

Having that accountability will generate high productivity, high engagement, and great empowerment of the people on your team.

Obviously, it’s easier said than done. Based on my experience, I find that several actions contribute to create accountability.

I’ll give you 2 here:

👍 Lead by example. To create accountability on your team, you’d better demonstrate yourself to the team that you are accountable for your actions, that you take responsibilities for your mistakes. In a nutshell, “walk the talk!”

👍 Give and ask feedback. I keep repeating that one, but this is so important. If you want to create accountability, you have to let people know when they are not accountable, so that they understand what is expected from them. Likewise, to show you are accountable, ask feedback about yourself.

How have you been able to create accountability on your team? Where do you see yourself struggling with that skill? What is an action you could take immediately to create more accountability within your team?

If you want to go deeper in this topic, and learn of other things you may do in order to create accountability, sign up for my free 12-week authentic leadership challenge and I will walk you through the 12 areas of my model.
