11 Apr My 12-Week Leadership Challenge – Week 5
Week 5 of my 12-week leadership challenge.
Today is about communicating effectively.
Letβs debunk a myth first. Effective communication has nothing to do with great public speaking skills. For sure, the latter helps to communicate effectively, but itβs nowhere near a pre-requisite or an obligation.
If youβre (not yet) convinced, consider this: A baby cannot speak. That does not prevent you from understand what he tells you through behaviors, body language, etc. This is because the baby can communicate (quite effectively it seems) with you. Convinced? π
In my experience, I found that effective communication happened when at least the following skills were used by the leader:
π Listening
π Showing empathy and being curious
π Be vulnerable
π Be thirsty for feedback (give it and receive it)
π Provide clarity
π Be consistent
π Be open and available
Where do you see yourself struggling on the above skills? What is an action you could take immediately to communicate more effectively with your team, your manager, other stakeholders?
If you want to go deeper in this topic, sign up for my free 12-week authentic leadership challenge and I will walk you through the 12 areas of my model.
