I don’t have time for this now!

“I don’t have time for this now!”

How often do we hear or say this in our lives or at work any given day? There are so many things we are craving for (be more active, have more time with family), but these good intentions often hit the wall of our perceived lack of time, because we must finish this project, we have this meeting coming up, etc.

But do we really lack time in our days for the things that really matter to us? Or are we falling victim to other people controlling our time, or reacting to urgent rather than important things?

To start better managing your time, use this little exercise:

  1. Visualize yourself completing that important project, task, presentation, etc. What is important to you upon completion? How do you feel about it?
  2. Now ask yourself “In order for me to feel like this, what is one thing I will have done?” Is it preparing for my meeting for 2 hours, or spend time with my family before, to relieve stress?
  3. Whatever your answer is, plan for it in your calendar by blocking your time NOW. This is your IMPORTANT time. Mark it as such and set expectations with everyone at work that this is your time, it is UNTOUCHABLE.

Is lack of time also a challenge for you? Please send me your comments.
