How to Create Opportunity from Change?

2020 will be the first year for me since 1993 that I don’t take the plane a single time!

At first glance, that can seem a big annoyance, major change, because flying to different parts of the world for work or leisure has been such a significant part of my life in those past 27 years.

This is of course caused by the Covid pandemic restrictions. I could have gotten mad about these and the limitations on my ability to travel the world.

However, you know what? I discovered that this constraint has actually allowed me to take a pause, hold back and think about other things that mattered and that I might have forgotten to focus on in these 27 years.

I focused on communicating differently with the people I could not meet anymore. Would you believe I even restarted (hand)writing a few letters and send them per post, the old way? I found myself writing a 25-page letter to my parents in May, as I could not be with them and my siblings to celebrate my birthday. It is hard to describe how good it felt to put thoughts on paper the good old way.

I focused on retaking time for me: I go with a new morning routine, spend more quality time with my family, reconnect with long lost friends.

I am doing things differently not because I feel constrained by the current situation. On the contrary, I decide that the current situation will not control my life. I focus on what matters to me.

What is the one big thing or habit that the Covid crisis stopped for you? What did you discover about it? What did you do otherwise? Tell me in the comments.
