Hero of my Childhood

As a teen, my favorite game on my Amstrad CPC464 was called “Sorcery”. The goal of the game was to deliver 8 sorcerers held captive. What made the game so enjoyable at the time was the good memory it required, its tactical sense, the discovery and sense of playfulness I had with it. I really felt like an adventurer, somebody with enough magic powers to solve any problem.

35 years later, when I am stuck in a supposedly unsolvable difficulty, or faced with challenges at work or in life, I often wonder about what my magic powers of 1985 would have allowed me to do in such situations. I empathize with my teen-self, and looking at my challenges through the lens of the Sorcerer I was then, I usually find new strength to discover new ways of tackling my challenge, to venture into new paths that present new solutions to me. I become playful again.

What about you? Who were you as a teen? What strength did you have then that you can summon today to tackle any challenge you face? Tell me in the comments.
